In the world of blogging, there are two popular platforms, namely Blogspot and WordPress. It’s tempting to try, but I want to observe first.

As a result of my observations, most Indonesian (and Indonesian-speaking) bloggers that I met actually used Blogspot. Yes, maybe there are some who use WordPress but not many, often they are blogs that have been abandoned by their owners or have used English from the start.

So the decision to write in Indonesian on Blogspot was the right one. At least for me.

As an amateur blogger, I still want to try too. Why not? It’s free, anyway. So I made this blog, an English version of my first one in Indonesian at fairly.my.id.

The good thing is that if I do a blogwalking and find an Indonesian blog that uses WordPress, I can comment directly without filling in your name, e-mail and URL address again. 😄

The experience of using these two platforms is quite interesting. I share this based on observations:

Blogspot (+)

  1. The writing experience is simpler and more practical
  2. The blog can be connected with a paid domain
  3. Free hosting, because you use Google hosting, so it’s cheap.
  4. Many Indonesian bloggers still use Blogspot
  5. There are no advertisements in the post unless you want to place an ad

Blogspot (-)

  1. To make the template, you have to search first if you don’t want the default template.
  2. Less updates compared to other Google platforms
  3. The free templates out there are a bit outdated, sometimes some need to be updated first
  4. No comment editing
  5. WordPress.com (+)

WordPress (+)

  1. The block system in WordPress writing templates must be studied first.
  2. It can be opened in the WordPress application.
  3. The comments section can be edited
  4. More platform’s updates
  5. More templates and it’s updates

WordPress.com (-)

  1. The writing experience is less practical because you have to search through a large “tools” menu
  2. The WordPress application (for me) often hangs
  3. You can’t connect with a domain, you have to buy a more expensive one except wordpress.org
  4. There are lots of advertisements in the post, it’s also called free
  5. Indonesian bloggers are rarely still on WordPress.com (not the .org ones, OK)

There are many other things in common, such as comment moderation, etc. That’s roughly my observation and experience using two blogging platforms.

What about you yourself, have you ever had a story about either of them?

Or maybe just what is your experience of commenting on each platform?
